Five Roses of Hyrule: Chapter 6

Faint memories

Vio twiddled his thumbs as he told them about his dream.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vio and Shadow were in the same corridor again.
“Uh oh…” Vio thought.
This time, Shadow was standing beside him.
“Shadow… do you know where we are?” Vio turned his head to Shadow, who had his head looking down.
“I- I don’t know….  Vio... I- I’m scared… I don’t want you to kill me again…”
Shadow looked up at Vio and tears started to form up in his eyes.
“Shadow, its okay… we- we can find a way out, wherever here is…” Vio pulled Shadow close to him and smiled.
Suddenly, the floor collapsed under Vio’s feet.
“Wahh! Shadow! Help!” Vio cried out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shadow’s head perked up. “ That was where I dove in to save you...” Shadow began to tell the rest of the dream.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Don’t worry! I’ll save you, Vio!” Shadow jumped into the pit and grabbed Vio’s hand, pulling him close.
Some of the feathers on his wings began to fly off.
“No! Not now!” Shadow turned his head and watched the rest of the feathers fly off his back.
Shadow and Vio fell into the darkness, clinging onto each other as they plummeted to their deaths.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shadow was to the point of tears when he finished recalling his dream.

“I was supposed to get my memories back…” Shadow could feel the tears falling out of his eyes. “I was supposed to save Vio… after almost killing him on Death Mountain…”

Vio’s head perked up. “ What did you say?”

“What? Don’t you rememb-’’ Shadow paused.

“You… you have a memory…” Vio barely managed to choke out.

Shadow kept on crying.

“I- I remember… I remember something…” Shadow realized.

“Shadow!” Vio grabbed hold of him and buried his head into Shadows chest, tears streaming down his face. “But do you remember anything else?” Vio asked.

“No… but…Vio… I think I can remember something when I do something nice for another person…” Shadow looked down at Vio.

“But I don’t understand… what did you do?” Vio dried his eyes and looked up at Shadow.

“I tried to save you.” Shadow responded, wrapping his arms around Vio.

They sat there, crying in each other’s arms for about three minutes when Green looked at Shadow and asked, “but how do you guys have such a close connection? I mean, you both know you love each other… even when you didn’t remember him, Shadow. If I was in your position, I would be kinda freaked out if a stranger kissed me.” Green slurped up some of his hot chocolate.

“That’s where you’re wrong, Green. You see, I had remembered Vio since I came to the land of the living again.” Shadow looked at Vio and smiled warmly.

“But… I thought you never remembered me until now…” Vio picked up his hot chocolate and took a sip.

“I didn’t know what happened, but when I saw your face… I knew I had seen you somewhere and that we had a strong connection.” Shadow ate a cookie and continued. “That was why I stopped. My heart told me I needed you, even though I didn’t realize it.”

“Come on you guys… lets go to bed.” Green stood up and walked out of the room.

Vio and Shadow walked back to their bedroom, hand in hand.

---------------------------------------------------

Blue’s eyes opened and saw that he was the first one up. He opened his eyes a little more, tried to sit up and found Red holding his waist.

Blue blushed slightly and tried to move Red’s arms off him. Red, still asleep, wasn’t moving his arms.

“Oh, great…” Blue muttered as he tried to squirm away.

Red pulled Blue closer to him and smiled. “Blue… I’d love to have this dance with you.” Red muttered in his sleep.

Blue’s eyes widened in shock. “What the hell are you thinking about?”

“I need to go now, Blue… the clock struck midnight!” Red muttered as he let go of Blue.

Blue jumped back and brushed his T-shirt back down. “Note to self: if Red ever does that again, pull his ears.” He said to himself.

“Oh blue… lets have another dance!” Vio mockingly said behind him.

Shadow smacked Vio upside the head. “I think it’s cute.”

“You guys heard that?” Blue blushed and looked down at the floor.

“Yep.” Vio laughed.

“Come on Vio… lets go and make breakfast for everyone.” Shadow pulled Vio out of the room.

“Wait… we need our father’s permission first.” Vio towed Shadow into their father’s room.

Their father wasn’t in his bed. Instead, there was a note on it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear sons,
It looks like I’ve run into trouble. One of Zelda’s guards was out roaming the streets to look for something to report back to the princess. He decided to take a stop at our house to have a little chat.
Of course, I invited him in, but once he walked in, he wanted to see how Green was doing. There wasn’t enough time to warn you, as he went upstairs without my permission.
And of course, he saw all of you. He ran downstairs, and before he left, he shouted to me, shaking his fist. “ Your son will be sorry that he ever pulled out the four sword again!”
Fortunately, it several days to get to Hyrule castle from here.
I will be at an island called outset. Green knows where it is.
Your father
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Crap… Shadow, go wake up the other Links and tell them to get dressed. I’ll go and pack supplies.” Vio ran downstairs and Shadow ran up the stairwell.

“You guys! Get up and get dressed! Quickly!” Shadow pulled the covers off of all the Links’ beds and put them on the floor.

Blue, who was already awake, walked up to Shadow and asked, “what’s wrong?”

“I can’t tell you right now. Vio and I will explain later. How fast can you fold these blankets?” Shadow asked.

“Already finished.” Blue placed the blankets, which were folded into squares, one on top of the other.

“It’s a habit…” Blue sheepishly smiled.

Once the Links were finished dressing, they ran downstairs.

“Okay, we’re all packed up! Now, for transportation…” Vio crossed his arms, thinking. “It has to be strong enough to lift our supplies to the harbour, and at the same time, needs to carry the five of us.”

“I got it! I’ll be right back, guys!” Green dashed out the door and ran to the stable, bringing out his horse, Epona.

“Okay girl… off to Lon Lon Ranch we go!”

---------------------------------------------------
“Oih! Malon! I need your help.” Green shouted out.

“Link! Its you again! How’d you been?” Malon ran up to Green and kissed him on the cheek.

“Uh... um… I’ve been better…” Green blushed.

“And how have your four splits been doing?” Malon put a finger to her lips and said, “its okay. My lips are sealed. I won’t tell anyone about them.”

“How did you know?” Green asked, thinking that the guard had gotten past this point already.

“Your father told me. He also told me to give you these.” Malon ran into the stable and brought out four horses. One was snow white, one was ginger colored, one was ebony black, and the last one was a greyish color.

“Leave them at the harbour. I can pick them up later. Right now, you have a boat to get.”  Malon handed Green two medium sacks of rupees.

“This should be enough to buy a boat big enough for the five of you.” Malon whispered, “I won’t forget you, Link.”  And kissed him.

“Mumu…. Eh?” Green touched his lips and blushed.

“ You’d better get going, Green.” Malon frowned slightly. “If they catch you, all of you could get the death penalty.”

“Okay. Thanks again for the stuff, Malon!” Green mounted his horse and waved back at her.

“No prob, Link!” Malon waved back.

---------------------------------------------------

When he got back to their house, the four Links were waiting outside the front door.

“Ponies? Cool! Do we get to ride them?” Red jumped up and down, clapping his hands.

“ Yeah. Just pick one.” Green smiled at them.

Red ran up to the ginger one and stroked her hair. “I call this one!”

Shadow walked up to the black horse. “I like this one…”

Vio looked at the last two horses. “The white one’s okay,”

Blue walked beside the grey horse and mounted it.

---------------------------------------------------

They reached the harbour and tied the horses to a fence.

“Wow, look at all the boats! Blue walked every dock and looked at all the boats.

Then he looked up at the marvelous sight. “Woah…” it was a giant pirate ship.

“How much is this boat?” Green asked the harbour supervisor.

“Three thousand rupees.” The supervisor replied.

Green lifted up the two sacks of rupees and handed them to the supervisor, who jingled one bag and replied, “I think I’m only going to need one. Besides… kids like you should get a discount.”

“Hey, thanks mister!” Green shook the man’s hand.

---------------------------------------------------

“Tie the masts and raise the anchor; we’re going to outset!” Green shouted from the lookout.
